Tadalafil Uses, Benefits, Dosage and Mechanism of Action
Tadalafil is a drug that is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) or the inability of men to achieve or maintain an erection to have sex. It is also applied in another disorder in both men and women known as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
WHAT IS TADALAFIL USED FOR?
Tadalafil has two primary uses:
Erectile Dysfunction (ED): This is its most common use. It assists men with erectile dysfunction to attain and sustain an erection during the period of sexual excitement.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland is enlarged and thus brings about difficulties when urinating, a weak urine stream or a frequent urination urge. Tadalafil is available to dilate the muscles of the prostate and bladder and enhance urine flow and symptom reduction.
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH): PAH is a serious condition where there is high blood pressure in the blood vessels that carry blood to the lungs. Tadalafil works by relaxing these blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood to the lungs.
Sometimes, doctors may prescribe tadalafil for both ED and BPH if a patient has both conditions.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Tadalafil is an oral drug that improves the process of natural erection in the body by treating erectile dysfunction (ED). Upon arousal of a man, a chemical cGMP relaxes penile muscles in order to augment blood flow to lead to an erection. The body usually degrades cGMP using an enzyme known as PDE5. Tadalafil inhibits PDE5 and cGMP is prolonged. This leads to an improvement in the flow of blood and the provision of an erection through stimulation. It also relaxes prostate and bladder muscles to enhance urine flow in BPH and dilates blood vessels of the lung to reduce heart workload in PAH.

Effective for ED: It successfully helps the majority of men with ED.
Long-Lasting Effect: This is its most significant advantage. Although other medicines of the same kind such as sildenafil act within 4-6 hours, tadalafil may take up to 36 hours. Daily Dosing Option: Tadalafil is available in a small, low dose that can be taken once a day.

DOSAGE RECOMMENDATION
A doctor has to decide the dosage. Do not prescribe this drug to yourself. Common doses include:
In as-needed ED: The average dose is 10 mg that is taken at least 30 minutes prior to sexual activity. A doctor can either raise it to 20 mg or reduce it to 5mg depending on the reaction of the body. It may be administered with or without food.
In daily ED: 2.5 mg or 5 mg 1 dose is administered daily, preferably at the same time of day. The effect takes approximately 5 days of daily use before it becomes effective in the body.
In BPH: The standard dose is 5mg daily.
In the case of PAH: The dose is typically 40mg/day.
It is important to take the instruction of your doctor and do as they instruct. Tadalafil should not be consumed more than once a day. Above all, tadalafil must never be administered to men who also take nitrate medicines of any type as the combination of the two will lead to a life-threatening decrease in blood pressure.
